Cats love to Scratch, they stretch their toes and sharpen their claws, but unfortunately, it's mostly on our furniture.  These are furniture savers !!  
 
It doesn't take much to show them how to use it. As soon as you get it, put catnip in the crevices of the cut cardboard, and run it in.  Then place the scratching board on the floor level and at floor level with the board you will take your hands and start scratching on it. 
 
If your fur baby hears you, they will come and check it out.  Let them see you do it and then get them involved by taking their claw or paw to it.  The catnip should make them feisty and playful.  You may have to do it a few times but it WORKS!!  Good Luck!
